The Newtown Ice House will be open from noon to 9 p.m. The store will be seasonal, closing sometime in mid to late fall. This is the second Ice House location for Jackie and Todd McGonigal who are excited to bring their one-of-a-kind Italian ices to their hometown while continuing to serve their Yardley Ice House customers. Under their ownership, Yardley Ice House won Best of Philly in 2003, 2012, 2013 and in 2016 when it graced the cover of Philadelphia Magazine as the best water ice in the Delaware Valley. The Ice House uses only top shelf, premium ingredients to make its hand crafted frozen treats setting it apart from its competitors, said Jackie.

It’s also good to see a successful business at this end of State Street,” he said. A crazy popular Italian ice shop, Yardley Ice House, is opening a 2nd location in town, according to The Patch. “We're looking forward to being back at both locations and growing our following," said Jackie. "We can’t wait to see all of our customers again and welcome new customers to our stores."

In addition, it will offer a selection of rotating specialty flavors from its 140 unique offerings. The Newtown Ice House will officially open its doors on Saturday, April 15 beginning at noon at the former site of Mom Mom's Take and Bake Pizza at 156 North State Street. Nice place to stop if you are in town, or not. Girls at the desk were SUPER friendly and the choices were abundant.

As it happens, the couple’s season will truly kick off this Saturday, Mar 11, at noon, when their Yardley Ice House location reopens, which sits a mere 10 minutes from the upcoming outpost. Yardley Ice House owners Jackie and Todd McGonigal are opening the doors to the new Newtown Ice House Saturday afternoon. Jackie is also excited to announce that the Newtown Ice House will be serving its water ice during the 2023 summer concert series at Crossing Vineyards & Winery in Upper Makefield. "We're really looking forward to that," she said. "In Newtown we're going to continue our frequent buyer program," said Jackie.

If Italian Ice isn't your thing, Newtown Ice House will also be offering soft serve vanilla and chocolate custard. Oh, and they'll also serve ice cream sandwiches for dogs because they're next door to a grooming business. The business offers several flavors of soft-serve ice cream, including vanilla, chocolate, pumpkin, and dole whip, along with a wide variety of flavors of gourmet water ice. Some of their options include Banana Cream Pie, Peach Cobbler, Cinnamon Bun, Apple Pie, and Mint Chocolate Chip, to name a few. In addition to its wildly popular gourmet water ice, the Yardley Ice House will be serving its standard vanilla and chocolate custard, its Pineapple Dole Whip, and its new mint custard for March.
The store will wrap up its debut season in Newtown Borough on Sunday, Oct. 1 from 12 to 9 p.m. A soft-served mint green custard also will be available during March at the Yardley store. One big change from Yardley is that the Newtown location will be accepting credit cards.
“This is exactly what we’re looking for in town,” said Dan Petty, vice president of the Newtown Business Association. “The people you see going into this building are all coming out smiling. Business has been brisk since opening day, reports Jackie McGonigal, who owns and operates the Newtown and Yardley Ice House locations with husband, Todd.

The ices have real ingredients which makes them stand out for me. When the store does open, hours will be from noon to 10 p.m. Because the ice maker is so big, Jackie said ice making operations will be located in Yardley with the ice being transported to Newtown where the ingredients will be added. This past year they added six new favors including birthday cake, wildberry Sangria, apple pie, Blue Hawaii and Ecto-Cooler, inspired by Ghostbusters. The Newtown Ice House, which opened its doors on April 15, celebrated its official grand opening on May 10 with a ribbon cutting and a business card exchange organized by the Newtown Business Association. “We are proud to announce that we will soon be opening Newtown Ice House, our second location!

"We will be posting all of our flavors daily on our website ()," said Jackie. One big change from the Yardley Ice House is that the Newtown location will be accepting credit cards. Newtownians who have never been to the Yardley Ice House are in for a real treat. And the weather is expected to be perfect for water with temperatures reaching the mid to upper 70s on Saturday.
"Most important of all, we served all of you your favorite delicious treats all spring and summer," wrote Jackie on the Yardley Ice House Facebook page. "Thank you so much for your support. It means everything to us." We have been warmly welcomed by the community. And it’s been nice to see everyone come out to support us,” said Jackie, who also lives in Newtown with her husband and children. While the ice house will be closing for the season, patrons are encouraged to keep watch on Facebook for pop up events during the coming months.
On Saturday, March 16 at noon Jackie and Todd McGonigal will reopen their popular Ice House locations in Yardley Borough and Newtown Borough for another season of frozen treats. Also, because they are located next to the Blue Pooch Grooming business they will be selling doggie ice cream sandwiches. Also, because they are located next to Blue Pooch Grooming they will be selling doggie ice cream treats for their four-legged friends. “We can’t wait to serve the Newtown community and see everyone when we open next spring,” said Jackie. “I’m always happy to see more ice and more ice cream options in town.
Since its opening three decades ago, the Ice House has built a reputation for making and serving top-shelf, gourmet water ice made with premium, fresh, and creamy ingredients. The Newtown Ice House, which opened back in the spring, held its last day of business for the season on Oct. 1. Having become a popular spot in Newtown, the business’ first season was a massive success, with customers consistently lining up to try their treats.
